Can water really taste different? Some people notice that the water from their tap tastes different from high-end bottled mineral water. The answer is that water can indeed taste different, and this difference comes from the minerals in the water!
These six minerals typically create different tastes:
-
Iron (Fe2+) gives a metallic taste
-
Calcium (Ca2+) gives a bitter taste
-
Magnesium (Mg2+) gives a taste that is first bitter then sweet
-
Sodium (Na+) gives a salty taste
-
Chloride (Cl-) gives a disinfectant-like taste
-
Sulfate (SO42-) gives a silky mouthfeel,
-
Bicarbonate (HCO3-) gives a soapy taste.
5 Types of Filters You Must Know
PP Fiber Filter
The PP fiber filter is made from high-density polypropylene fibers. These fibers are tightly packed, creating a fine filter network. As water passes through, the filter traps solid particles, impurities, pollutants, and microorganisms like sand, rust, and dust, making the water clearer.

Activated Carbon Filter
The activated carbon filter is made from specially treated porous carbon. The structure of the carbon increases its surface area, making it more effective at absorbing and removing organic compounds, chemicals, odors, and pollutants from the water, such as chlorine, pesticide residues, and other harmful substances. Besides removing these, the activated carbon filter also improves the taste of the water, making it fresher and more drinkable.

Resin Filter
The resin filter uses special resin materials that have a specific chemical structure. This works through a process called ion exchange. As water passes through the resin, it absorbs metal ions like calcium and magnesium and releases sodium ions instead. This reduces the formation of scale, softening hard water and minimizing its impact on household equipment and pipes, such as reducing scale buildup in faucets and water heaters.

Hollow Fiber Membrane Filter
The hollow fiber membrane filter is made from special hollow fiber strands. These fibers have a hollow structure, allowing water to flow through the center rather than passing through solid material. This structure lets water pass through the surface or pores of the hollow fibers while efficiently blocking or filtering out solid particles, bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants.

Reverse Osmosis Membrane Filter
The reverse osmosis (RO) membrane filter uses a special membrane with tiny pores that let only water molecules through, blocking most impurities and dissolved solids. Pressure forces the water through, leaving contaminants behind, resulting in highly purified water. This process is effective but requires higher pressure and is more complex.
